One of the many modern driver assistance features on select Cadillac models is Cadillac Adaptive Cruise Control, designed to help drivers stay safe and relaxed. Read on as we share the lowdown and the how and what of Cadillac Adaptive Cruise Control.

What Is Cadillac Adaptive Cruise Control?

Cadillac Adaptive Cruise Control, once set to your desired following gap, automatically adjusts your car's speed, helping you maintain a safe following distance from any vehicle ahead of you.

How Cadillac Adaptive Cruise Control Works

Cadillac Adaptive Cruise Control makes use of cameras and radar mounted up front to monitor the road ahead and then automatically brake or speed up to maintain the pre-selected gap between your vehicle and the detected car ahead.

How to Use Cadillac Adaptive Cruise Control

  1. Turn the feature on by pressing the cruise control's On/Off button on the steering wheel. The white Adaptive Cruise Control icon will then light up in your cluster display or on your Head-Up Display.
  2. To choose your desired cruise speed, press the Set button while driving at your desired speed. The white icon will change to green, indicating the system is in use. The Cadillac Adaptive Cruise Control system on the latest Cadillacs can be set when stationary with the brake pedal pressed and the vehicle in forward gear.
  3. Select your preferred following gap by using the 'Gap Setting' button on the steering wheel and cycling through the Far, Medium, or Near gap settings. Drivers should always take into consideration their desired cruise speed plus road conditions when determining a safe following gap.

Newer Cadillacs equipped with Traffic Sign Recognition can detect speed limit signs and prompt adjustment of the Adaptive Cruise Control speed to the newly detected speed limit. Drivers can then choose to accept or deny the suggested speed.

If you choose not to do anything, the vehicle will automatically set your Adaptive Cruise Control speed to the detected speed limit.

To stop using Adaptive Cruise Control, drivers can tap the brakes, press cancel, or press the cruise control On/Off button.

For the system to function correctly, it's best to keep the front of your Caddy free of mud and dirt that can obscure the cameras.

Key Features of Cadillac Adaptive Cruise Control

  • Certain Cadillac models allow switching between Adaptive Cruise Control and cruise control
