Continue reading as we share more about the Cadillac emergency brake feature.

What is Cadillac Automatic Emergency Braking?

Cadillac Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB) can automatically provide hard emergency braking or enhance the driver's hard braking to help avoid or reduce the severity of a collision.

The system will act when it detects a vehicle that you are following has stopped or is braking heavily in front of you.

How Does Cadillac Automatic Emergency Braking Work?

Cadillac Automatic Emergency Braking makes use of camera technology to function.

When in forward gear, the system uses a camera to look directly ahead of your Cadillac and monitor other vehicles in front of you.

Depending on your Cadillac model, the system will monitor any vehicles at speeds above five mph and up to highway speeds.

Owners are advised to check their owner's manual for the speed range at which the Cadillac Automatic Emergency Braking functions on their particular model.

How to Use Automatic Emergency Braking in Your Cadillac

When the Cadillac emergency brake feature detects another vehicle directly in front of you, a green vehicle icon will pop up in your Cadillac's Driver Information Center (DIC) and in the Head-Up Display if your vehicle has that available feature.

The system will automatically detect when you are seconds away from a possible front-end collision with the vehicle in front, and give a Collision Alert, including a flashing red windshield light along with several audible beeps.

Cadillac models, when equipped with a Safety Alert Seat, will activate alert warning pulses on both sides of the driver's seat according to the settings on the Alert Type menu option.

If the driver doesn't respond quickly enough to the alerts and doesn't start braking, or if the potential collision situation happens too quickly, the Cadillac Automatic Emergency Braking feature will automatically apply hard emergency braking or enhance the driver's hard braking.

Drivers can turn the Automatic Emergency Braking feature off via the settings menu on the display screen. When adjusting your Automatic Emergency Braking settings to "Off" or "Alert," a yellow icon may light up in the gauge display along with a message indicating that automatic braking has been turned off, depending on the Cadillac model.

The yellow icon may also light up if the windshield in front of the Cadillac emergency brake camera is obscured or when the system's camera lens is dirty.

Drivers are also able to override the system at any time by simply pressing the accelerator when it's safe to do so.
