What Is Cadillac Forward Collision Alert?

The Forward Collision Alert from Cadillac will alert drivers to any potential collision situation once it detects a vehicle you may be following is slowing down or coming to a stop so you can take action.

How Cadillac Forward Collision Alert Works

The Cadillac Forward Collision Alert system makes use of a forward-looking camera or a combination of a camera and radar sensor, depending on the Cadillac model, to monitor the view ahead and alert the driver when their vehicle gets too close or the vehicle ahead is stopping.

When a driver approaches the vehicle ahead too quickly, and a potential collision is only seconds away, the Cadillac Forward Collision Alert will flash a red collision alert on the lower windshield, along with eight high-pitched beep sounds or, if fitted, safety alert seat pulses. The system will only operate when you are traveling in any forward gear.

How to Use Cadillac Forward Collision Alert

Like most of Cadillac's advanced safety technologies, the Cadillac Forward Collision Alert works seamlessly in the background until required. The system will display a green icon when a vehicle ahead is detected. The alert icon will turn amber to indicate a Tailgating Alert if the system deems you to be following the vehicle ahead too closely.

Drivers can use the control on their Cadillac's steering wheel to set the timing of the Tailgating Alerts and Forward Collision Alerts to "Far," "Medium," or "Near" settings. The system will calculate the timing based on the distance to the vehicle ahead, vehicle speeds, along with other driving factors.

Owners should also take into consideration traffic and weather conditions when selecting their alert timing, as the range of selectable alert timings may not always be appropriate for all drivers' skills and prevalent driving conditions. Drivers can disable the alert in the vehicle's settings menu, as well as turn off automatic braking if necessary.
